Samuel May, Jr. writes William Lloyd Garrison informing him of the death of his father, expressing a mixture of relief and shock. May states that they cannot yet name the time of the funeral service, owing to his late father's express wishes, and an illness on the part of his mother. May informs Garrison that while the funeral service will be a "very private" affair, they will be glad to have him join them, should he be able to do so. May states that Samuel Joseph May will also be in attendance.
