Samuel May, Jr. informs Wendell Phillips Garrison that the box sent by Garrison had arrived, and that May had opened it the previous day per the instructions left on the cover. May informs Garrison that the statuette are in excellent order, and that he has placed them on a table in his father's parlor, to the admiration of all who have seen them. May asserts that the likeness of Wendell's father, while not "as exact as might be wished", remains "so very true to his thought & character" that he cannot help but find it an "excellent likeness". May thanks Garrison for the gift, stating that he will "always prize it, as a reminder of a work" to which he had dedicated over twenty years of his life, as well as a reminder of those with whom he had labored.
