Pillsbury wrote a letter of transmittal to Samuel May on the copy of a letter from Walter Scott to Wilson Armistead, which Armistead had forwarded to Pillsbury. The letter from Scott to Armistead is dated January 14, 1856 from Airedale College [near Manchester, England]. Scott denounces the American churches and the Board of Missions, saying "How deplorable it is that professed Christians have taught the heathen slavery." In the undated letter of transmittal, Pillsbury tells May of his counsel to Armistead.
