A.F. Stoddard writes to William Lloyd Garrison to offer Garrison, along with his son and daughter, "the hospitalities of my house." Stoddard says that, "As an American abolitionist who has long admired your eloquent & able advocacy of the cause, I claim the right to entertain you whilst in this neighborhood." He then gives a brief description of his house and asks Garrison to reply to his offer. In the postscript, Stoddard adds that "both Mrs. Stoddard & myself are from old Massachusetts."
