A conversation beginning with a description by Charles Slater of the history of the Slater farm. Then moving to the houses surrounding it. They touch on the little stone house that tape 5 starts with, and decide to let John McLennan tell that story. Side B is Tape 5, but much clearer, conversation about the history of the Ashintully property, from Daniel Clark (who owned the property before the house was built and collected minerals) to the Tytuses who built the mansion, to the various families who lived on or around the property. Topics include: Lost Farm, cheesemaking, Tyringham Fire Department, Charles Burton Slater or Burt becoming a shoe salesman in Chicago and Boston, and eventually buying the Morill Shoe Company, and renaming it C.B. Slater Shoe Company, hunting, barn raising, maple sugaring, farming, preservation of antiquities, stone cutting, bakeries, fishing, shooting, injuries: lost foot, lost eye.
